Kasane´ was the result of a 14-week study abroad experience with nine fellow student designers in Japan. With the theme of Future Craft, we were tasked with deep-diving into the rich history of artisanal craft and finding opportunities for bringing it into the modern home through furniture, lighting or housewares. I led a team of three to design two chairs for gathering, one of which I designed and prototyped independently with assistance from the model shop at TAMA. KASANÉ tells a story of the cultural meaning behind the colored layers of a Juni-Hitoe ceremonial kimono.
